A Look at the Most Expensive Yachts in the World

Lighthouse Point Yacht Club offers a premier spot to park your yacht and enjoy all the accommodations our prestige club has to offer. Around here, we see some pretty spectacular yachts on a regular basis – which causes us to question, what do the most expensive yachts in the world have to offer, and how much do they cost exactly?

The 4 Most Expensive Yachts in the World

History Supreme

$4.8 billion

Designed by Stuart Hughes, History Supreme is the most expensive yacht in the world and it takes luxury to a whole new level. While super yachts sell in the hundreds of millions, this yacht is something else entirely, with a sale price in the billions.

The exterior is plated with platinum and gold – there are 200,000 pounds of precious metals in the composition of this beauty.

In the sleeping quarters you’ll find a wall piece made from a meteorite, along with authentic Tyrannosaurus Rex bones.

It might have the most outlandish features and the highest price tag, but History Supreme is far from the biggest yacht. In fact, it’s rather average in size at 100 feet.

So, who owns this ultra-fancy yacht? An anonymous Malaysian businessman purchased it. A little detective work points to the owner. After all, there’s only one businessman in Malaysia who is worth over $5 billion, Robert Kwok, who is worth $14.8 billion.

Azzam

$650 million

Azzam isn’t coated in gold or home to T-Rex bones, but it is the largest yacht in the world at 590 feet. Designed by Christophe Leone, it is said to be the most complex yacht ever built. For one, the boat has a built-in missile defense system. It also sports a softer side, including a full spa and a luxury gym. In addition, it has a helipad, as well as a detachable submarine.

Despite its massive size, this yacht can go impressively fast at up to 30 knots – which is quite a technological feat.

It is owned by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa.

Eclipse

$1.5 billion dollars

This yacht is the second most expensive and at 536 feet, it is also the second largest yacht in the world. It takes 70 people to clean and maintain the yacht – that’s how big it is.

Built by Blom & Voss of Hamburg, Germany, anyone will feel safe on this ultra-secure boat that is outfitted with complex intruder detection systems, missile defense systems, and bullet proof windows. There are two helipads in case you need to make a quick entrance or escape. There’s also a mini submarine attached to the side that can dive 50 meters deep.

The Disco Hall is one of the more fun elements of the yacht, and there’s plenty of room to party. After all, the yacht has 24 guest cabins, each more beautiful and inviting than the next.

Eclipse is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club in the English Premier League.

Streets of Monaco

$1.1 billion

This yacht is still in the making but it’s so impressive (and expensive) it deserved a spot on this list. The yacht is being built as a scaled-down replica of Monaco – and it literally looks like a miniature city. Of course, it will include some of the most famous landmarks associated with the city, including the racetrack of the Circuit de Monaco and the Monte Carlo Casino.

Complete with swimming pools and tennis courts, this fabulous yacht will accommodate up to sixteen guests. The onboard café will feature underwater views. If you want to go deeper, there will be detachable submarines available for your pleasure. Like the other super yachts on this list, it will feature helipads as well.

What is the cost of the average yacht?

The average cost of a second-hand yacht is $8.4 million, although yachts start at around $1.5 million.

Factors that influence the cost of a yacht include:

  • The maker and designer – a prestigious brand name can up the price by $20 million but brand names tend to hold their value better over time.
  • Size
  • Age – how old is it
  • Custom, semi-custom or bulk-made
