8 Inspirational Ideas for Weddings on the Water in Florida

There’s nothing quite like a wedding on the water in South Florida, especially one hosted at the beautiful Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. While the water sets the grand stage for your big day, the little details will make it all the more special. Since you’ll be saying “I do” on the water, you might as well bring seaside themes to your centerpieces, cake, take-home goodies, and more.

Great Ideas for Weddings on the Water

#1. Beach Theme Place Settings

Dress up tables with beach-themed décor, like delicate starfish favor boxes filled with chocolate shells – the perfect take-home treat for your guests. Other ideas include pretty coral, or starfish place card holders and table centers. You could also use starfish frames with each person’s name and table number printed on a paper and tucked inside. Or, what about a cardboard starfish that sits on top of a glass? Mini folding beach chairs personalized with each guest’s name make another great option.

#2. Seaside Centerpieces

Place settings are one thing, but you’ll also need centerpieces at each table. Flowers are the traditional go-to, but you could also take on a beachier theme by incorporating coral, starfish, or other ocean-inspired or nautical-style artifacts at the center of the table.

#3. Cheers to a Sand Ceremony

A sand ceremony is a fun way to exchange vows and it’s full of sweet sandy symbolism. It involves mixing two different colored sands into one glass vase – with each partner pouring a different color of sand. As the two sands come together it creates a symbol of your joining union.

Not only is it a fun way to spruce up your ceremony but it offers a forever keepsake you can use to decorate your home, forever reminding you of the love you share and the specialness of your wedding day.

#4. Ride Off on a Two-person Bike

Keep it environmentally friendly and ride off on a two-person bike instead of enlisting a fancy motor car. A two-person bike can be decorated with flowers; add a ‘Just Married’ sign to the back for extra emphasis and you’ve got the perfect beach friendly getaway. Just make sure to get a bike with a basket so you can put lots of flowers (or maybe even seashells!) inside of it.

Perhaps riding off on a bike in your wedding gown doesn’t sound like the most practical idea. We get it. Keep in mind, you don’t have to actually ride off on the bike – instead it can serve as a nice piece of decoration and a super fun photo prop for the bride and groom, as well as wedding guests.

#5. Fish Food Truck

Hours into the dance party your guests might start to work up another appetite. That’s why many couples are hiring food trucks to come and serve their guests as the party rolls into the late hours. Fish and chips, anyone? Go with a seaside theme – there are plenty of yummy food trucks in the area that cater to seafood palates.

#6. Bring the Sea to Your Welcome Bags

Planning to make welcome bags for your out of town guests? Include starfish-shaped cookies and other treats reminiscent of the sea to get them ready for an unforgettable event on the water.

#7. Hire a Live Painter

Capture the seaside beauty of the day in an entirely new way by hiring a live painter to capture your event in watercolor.

#8. Nautical Invitations

There are some beautiful invitations out there with a nautical theme – perfect for your wedding at a yacht club. Simply search ‘nautical wedding invitations’ to see what’s available out there. From anchors to a helm, to a lighthouse, the options are endless. This lets guests know of your theme from the get-go.

Remember, just because you’re getting married on the water doesn’t mean you have to enlist a seaside or nautical theme. We’ve seen couples put a large variety of themes to work, and they all pair perfectly with the serene natural beauty found here at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club. Need help coming up with a theme? Our in-house wedding coordinator is always happy to help.
