From finding a workout buddy to working with a trainer, there are several things you can do to get the most out of your fitness routine and get in better shape this year.
Getting in shape doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, effort and dedication – and it’s not something you can do for a while and then give up on. If you want to keep those well-shaped glutes, you’ll have to continually work at it. That’s why the key to getting (and staying) in shape is to make it a fun part of your weekly routine.
6 Ways to Improve Your Fitness Routine for Better Results
#1. Add a Buddy
The best way to stick to your workout resolution is to get a friend in on the fun. Having someone to help hold you accountable is essential to getting in as many workouts with fewer excuses. When someone is planning to meet you at the gym, you are far more likely to go than if you are going solo. Plus, it’s just more fun to work out with someone else.
#2. Work Out with a Trainer
Taking just a few sessions with a trainer can make all the difference to your workout routine. A trainer offers so much insight into how to properly conduct exercises, and which exercises are most beneficial for your body type and goals.
You can take everything you learn during these sessions and apply them time and time again in your solo workouts. In addition, a trainer is going to push you to do those extra sets you might otherwise skip out on to avoid the true burn. Remember, real change occurs when you work past the burn and do more sets than you did the day before.

#3. Get Out of the Gym
Not all workouts need to be done in the gym – in fact, you’re better off mixing it up. Go for a swim one day, play tennis the next, hit the weights and treadmill the following day, and wrap up the week in the yoga studio. The more you mix it up, the more muscles you end up working. Plus, this prevents you from getting bored and giving up.

#4. Switch Up the Time You Work Out
If you work out at the same time every single day, your body has something called muscle memory that goes into effect. This results in fewer changes from each workout and can lead to simply maintaining the results you’ve already achieved. By working out at different times, and switching up the type of workouts you do, you force your muscles to constantly retrain and work harder – and this is how you reap the most benefits.
#5. Watch What You Eat
Exercise is a big part of how you look, but what you put into your body as fuel is equally, if not even more, important. Eat more protein and drink plenty of water to get the most out of your workouts. Protein will help you build more muscle and keep you feeling fuller for longer.
#6. Set Goals
Set small goals – like doing 20 pushups without resting or running 2 miles without stopping. Constantly setting new goals can help keep you motivated and always working towards something new.
