At Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, weddings are our specialty! There’s nothing we love more than helping a bride and groom begin their life together with the perfect ceremony and reception. Over the years, we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a great wedding, here are some of our favorite tips.
6 Tips for the Perfect Wedding
Don’t Underestimate the Importance of Entertainment
It’s easy to get swept up in the little details of your big day – like hair, makeup, flowers, and what song you’ll dance to. Yet, the number one thing most couples say they didn’t put enough thought into is the entertainment. From DJs to performers to fun props, there are lots of ways to entertain your guests.
Reuse Your Ceremony Flowers
Flowers are an important part of your special day, but we all know that flowers are anything but cheap. One of the best pieces of advice I received from my florist when I got married was to use the flowers from my ceremony site to decorate the reception space afterwards.
The flowers on your arch can be transported to your sweetheart table, flowers on pedestals lining the aisle can be transformed into table centerpieces. You could also repurpose wedding party bouquets into centerpieces.
Expect the Unexpected
We all want your wedding day to go as perfectly as planned, and if you’re having your wedding at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, you truly have nothing to worry about. We make sure that every last need is taken care of and any unexpected issues always have a backup plan.
Still, it’s best to go into your wedding day with the attitude that things may not go exactly as planned, people may say things you don’t like, an uninvited guest may arrive, the weather may not be as sunny as you’d wanted, or a bridesmaid could trip going down the aisle. Don’t let anything get you down – it’s all just a good story in the future. Overall, your day will be perfect so don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s not worth letting it ruin the beauty of your best day ever.
Enlist a Day of Coordinator
A day of coordinator is the best investment you can make. You don’t want your mom or sister, or worse the bride and groom, running around making sure everything is ready and getting done on time – this takes away from your chance to enjoy the moment. A day of coordinator makes sure that everything is going according to plan and they solve any hiccups along the way, all while making make sure that you and your family have the best time possible. Lucky for you, we provide a wedding planner and day of coordinator at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club.
Consider a Second Shooter or Videographer
At the end of your special day, you’ll have the photos and videos to look back on, so make sure you put time into finding a photographer that you like and feel comfortable working with. Look through their work to see if their full albums meet all of your requirements. If there are certain must-have photos, make sure to talk with them about this ahead of time. You may want to consider hiring a second shooter so that the photographer doesn’t miss a thing.
A videographer is another add-on that might be worth the extra cost. Don’t have room in your budget? Enlist several trustworthy wedding guests to document footage from their video cameras or rent high quality video cameras that they can use.
Schedule Your Ceremony So That You Can Take Pictures as the Sun Sets
Pictures of the newly married couple are usually taken after the ceremony while your guests at cocktail hour. Depending on what time of year it is, speak with your photographer about the best time to start and finish your ceremony so that the first wedding photos of you as bride and groom are taken in the best lighting. There’s an art and a science to this!
