Discover the magic of the holiday season with Camp Live Oak’s Winter Camp!

Held at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, this exciting program offers children ages 5–13 the perfect mix of outdoor adventures, creative projects, and hands-on science activities. With two flexible sessions to fit your schedule, campers can explore nature, build new skills, and make lasting memories in South Florida’s near-perfect winter weather.

Each day is thoughtfully designed to engage campers in fun and educational experiences, from archery and canoeing to art and fishing. Campers will also dive into fascinating science topics, learning about wildlife, ecosystems, and even the wonders of ice and glaciers. With something for every interest, Winter Camp is the perfect way for kids to stay active, curious, and connected to nature this holiday season.

    Daily Activities

Each day at Winter Camp is packed with exciting activities, from hands-on science experiments to outdoor adventures like canoeing, hiking, and fishing. Fun and discovery await!

    Week 1: December 23–27, 2024

Let’s get Wild as Wildlife Biologists

Campers will step into the role of wildlife biologists as they explore local ecosystems, track wildlife using footprints and other clues, and learn about species roles in the environment. They will document their findings in a wildlife observation journal, complete with sketches and notes. Archery practice will let them aim for “big game” targets like deer, turkeys, or hogs, while team-building exercises will teach problem-solving and cooperation.

    Week 2: December 30 – January 3, 2025

Let’s Get Buggy like an Entomologist!

Campers will delve into entomology, learning what makes a bug a bug and why insects are vital to the ecosystem. They’ll search for bugs in leaves, dirt, and water and create their own bug sculptures using upcycled materials. Canoeing lessons will teach them to glide across the lake like water bugs, and team-building activities will encourage collaboration, inspired by how ants, bees, and spiders work together.
