Guiding Adventures and Survivor Skills!

Campers will master navigation using a map and compass, then put their skills to the test in a treasure hunt. They’ll create Morse code friendship bracelets, encoding secret messages for themselves or a friend, while learning the basics of this timeless communication method. Paddling lessons will teach them to maneuver kayaks or canoes on Long Lake. In addition, they’ll practice fire-building and outdoor cooking, with s’mores to top off the day, and gain foundational knowledge in wilderness first aid.

Fish Tails and Fish Tales-Fun Facts and Fish Stories

Campers will become ichthyologists, comparing freshwater, saltwater, and brackish habitats while observing and recording different fish species. They’ll create stunning gyotaku prints using rubber fish molds, blending art with science. Hands-on fishing activities will teach them to catch, identify, measure, and safely release their catches, while the day wraps up with storytelling and “fish tales.”

Ice Burgs, Ice Cubes 

Campers will explore the science of ice and glaciers through interactive experiments, learning about their formation and importance to the planet. They’ll discuss climate change and its impact on glaciers. For their art project, they’ll paint with ice, creating abstract watercolor masterpieces.

Birds of a Feather, Let’s Flock Together

Campers will explore ornithology, learning to identify and observe birds in various habitats, including the park, beach, and lake. They’ll gather data and create owl sculptures using clay and recycled materials. Through a migration game, they’ll discover the challenges faced by birds like the piping plover. The day concludes with archery, where campers can take aim and improve their focus.

The Fun and Funky Facts about Fungi

Campers will investigate the fascinating world of fungi, discovering how mushrooms grow and their unique role in the ecosystem. They’ll learn about innovative uses for fungi, like cleaning up oil spills and creating plastic alternatives. For their art project, they’ll make mushroom prints and paintings. The day also includes a fishing session by the water and games that illustrate the importance of connections, inspired by mycelium networks.

Snakes, Lizards and Turtles oh my!

Campers will dive into herpetology, studying reptiles and amphibians found in the park. A live demonstration by Ranger Marc will introduce them to various species. They’ll create turtle-inspired crafts using upcycled materials and participate in a fun turtle-themed game. A canoeing trip on Long Lake will let them observe freshwater turtles in their natural habitat.
